Eugene Marnell, M.D. Interventional Radiologist
Dr. Gene Marnell, born in
Atlanta, GA, completed his residency
at the Medical College of Georgia and
interventional fellowship at Wake
Forest University. Dr. Marnell also
enjoys the variety of cases and interaction
with multiple specialties, not
just being limited to one organ system
or set of diseases. His undergraduate
degree in engineering made a career in interventional radiology
obvious. "I consider it a privilege to bring the latest medical
technology directly to patients to solve problems and answer
questions." In his spare time, Dr. Marnell and his wife enjoy
playing trumpet and perform frequently with various local
groups in Augusta.

Samuel W. Mietling, M.D. Interventional Radiologist
Samuel W. Mietling, M.D. Interventional Radiologist
Dr. Samuel Mietling, born in St.
Louis, MO, went to the University
of North Carolina in Chapel Hill for
his medical education. He was eager
to reach the status of interventional
radiologist in order to have an opportunity
to provide minimally invasive
treatments to his patients. When asked
whether he was able to reach his student
day goals, Dr. Mietling laughs and answers, "Absolutely!
My practice now does not allow me the luxury of getting
bored. I do appreciate having patient interaction because most
of my colleagues in radiology have little, if any." Outside of
work, Dr. Mietling enjoys spending time with his children
and going on skiing trips.

Dr. David Riggans, born in
North Kingston, RI, is a graduate of
the Medical College of Georgia, and
did his residency at the University
of Kansas and his fellowship at MD
Anderson Cancer Center. While

mesmerized with continuous advancements
in the field of interventional radiology. "I could
see myself enjoying a fulfilling career in this specialty," shares
Dr. Riggans, "considering the variety of procedures and disease
processes I deal with on a daily basis." And the reality of his
workday now allows for Dr. Riggans to take advantage of not
only performing procedures in the high-tech environment, but
also to share that knowledge with the aspiring physicians at
MCG. Next to a miracle are the weekends when Dr. Riggans
gets to spend time with his wife of six years, maintain his saltwater
reef tank, snow ski, ride his road and mountain bikes,
scuba dive and enjoy his pilot's license.

specialty choice: interventional
radiology. He is now most excited about being able to
help his patients in a timely manner by using some of
